Current Activities

Reading Corners & Reading Rooms!

We create spaces for reading in schools, churches, community centers, etc. for children in need of books.

Book Donations & Readings!

We partner with schools, day care centers, and organizations by donating books to ensure children in the community have books in their homes for independent reading. Our members also volunteer their time to read to children at daycare centers, community events, and schools.

African-American Read-In!

We participate in the African American Read-In held in February during Black History Month where African American authors are celebrated. We partner with school districts and teachers who commit to be a part of the program by reading to the students.

"Laps for Literacy" Walk-a-Thon!

Annual event held each September, the Atlanta Metro Chapter participates in NHBW's "Laps for Literacy" walk-a-thon to bring awareness of the importance of literacy. Free books are provided to walk-a-thon participants and children from the community.

I need to read!

Our Reading for Life literacy initiative supports schools, teachers, libraries, and organizations working with grade school children and daycares/nurseries to help strengthen the reading skills of children by reading aloud to them and providing them with free books to make sure that children in the community have books in their homes to encourage independent reading.

Our goal is to inrease the percentage of students reading by the time they enter kindergarten and establish a literacy-based resource center for daycares, nurseries, and grade schools.
